Conservation of ancient documents
In ICRA Art we restore a wide variety of documents: old books, ancient parchments, religious opuscules, old letters and newspapers, birth certificate, etc. We remove mold infections and restore the original documents, always taking care about the fragility and delicacy of each good.
Specialists in curation of archaeological remains
Our training is focused especially on any material extracted from an archaeological site, whether organic (bone, ivory, wood …) or inorganic (fossils, stone, ceramics, glass, metals …). We intervene both in-situ or moving the pieces in our workshop.
Conservation before restoration
A restoration, even if it is accurate and reversible, is a direct intervention on the heritage. With preventive conservation, however, it’s not necesary work directly over it.
Conserve is an obligation. Restore is an option.
Reversible methods
All the products and materials used in ICRA can be removed in order to reduce problems with future treatments, investigation or uses. We also use ecological products and, if not possible, we eliminate correctly the hazardous ones to prevent their release into the environment.
Respect for every Cultural Good's history
Every single Cultural Good is unique. As a result, we avoid to create falsifications in restoration as soon as we conserve every Cultural Good respecting the non-damaging changes they have suffered over time: their own history.
FAQs - Private Customers
- How much to restore an historical object cost?
It depends. In ICRA we calculate the price of an intervention based on the complexity of each job, the deterioration of the piece, it’s fragility, the techniques and products that should be applied… We always make a quotation after seeing the original piece (not photos), in order to be as accurated as possible. - Can you restore my grandparents objects?
Yes. We have been conserved and restored from sculptures (religious, profane, in different materials …) to books, old letters, newspapers, paintings, field tools and even rosaries! - Do you restore or conserve old furniture?
Yes. We prefer to keep the original furniture appearance (bringing it back its former splendor through small interventions), rather than rehabilitating it (completely stripping its paint and repainting it again). Keep in mind that each piece is unique and, if rehabilitated, it can undergo changes that eliminate the own history of the object. - How much does it take to restore a historical object?
It always depends on the complexity of every single piece. An small-medium object with a regular conservation level can take between 2 weeks and 1 month to be restored.

- How do we get a Cultural Good restored?
First of all, we need the basic information of the Cultural Good in order to assure we have the materials and infrastructure to restore it. Then, if we diagnose the object needs to be restored or conserved we move it to our workshop, where the restoration process will begin. - Do you work in situ (on the archaeological site or in our museum)?
Yes. First of all we need to be provided with all the information about the Cultural Site or Good we ask. If it is too big, too delicated or its an archaeological site or monument, we move to the place where it is located. - Which type of restorations does ICRA Art do?
In ICRA Art we are fond of intervening as less as possible over the original piece, avoiding to create historical forgeries or illusionistic restorations when it comes to archaeological or art objects. That is why we always try to differentiate the restored parts from the original ones. To achieve this, we use different systems: pointillism, tratteggio, flat colours, color abstraction, etc. - Can you make preventive conservation plans?
Yes. We monitor and control environmental conditions, prepare preventative conservation plans for museums, exhibition halls and deposits, we supervise the transport of art works, and all the heritage restored by us is delivered with a small personalized guide for its preventative conservation. - Do you work in maintenance on Cultural Sites or Goods?
Yes. Depending on each Cultural Good, a periodic maintenance is established. The maintenance periodicity will vary depending on multiple variables such as the state of degradation, the Cultural Good’s location(indoors or outdoors), if it must be handled often…
